Both these tools are rated highly as well. The Makita advertises a user rating of 4.4/5 as contrasted against the 4.6/5 star rating given to the Makita 1002BA.

The Makita KP0800K has a few features you wont find on competing Electric Hand Planers. One example is 6.5 AMP motor delivers more output power for fast material removal. The Makita 1002BA however, is very competitive with Powerful 9.6 AMP motor with 15,000 RPM and even Precision machined base for notching out logs at a 12-5/8" curved radius.

You get what you pay for in these Makita tools. Works wonderfully and no problem getting it set up. At this point the top surfaces of the joists was very uneven. Its not so heavy that your arms will ache. I've been ruined by the Makita Planer!

Note that it does take a bit of finesse to get it right. We had to shave some doors down a small bit. Use the thin for the base and the thick for the tool cutout. 305 inch when cutting with 1/32 inch setting. I can't get too close to the floor with it.

If you are thinking that the Makita Electric Hand Planers we rated above don't meet your needs, we rated a handful of other options that may suit you better. I got the planer and put it to work right away. I reset the clamping plate using the alignment jig. You can take as little or lot off as you desire. Its not so heavy that your arms will ache. With that disclaimer out of the way, I'm very impressed.

I would recommend this to any one looking for a good planer. We had to shave some doors down a small bit. I have mostly Makita tools and none of them have failed. A solid planer and is more suited for larger timbers. This planer is a lot better than I expected for the money

Cool tool, planing through wood beautifully. It's not convenient, but it did contain about 98% of the mess. Also purchased extra blades to have on hand. It's closer to the street than the house! Without this planer, I had no idea how to solve the problem.
